Your questions, answered
Do I need to have played cricket before?
It depends on the team.
Women and girls: no experience needed. Our coaches welcome players of every level, including complete beginners, and someone will look after you from your very first session.
Men: our men’s squad is for experienced players with a solid cricket background, ready to compete in league matches.
Where can I play cricket in Basel?
At A1 Sports Club. We train in Basel (Primarschule Volta and St. Jakobshalle), Birsfelden, Allschwil (Bachgraben) and Hofstetten-Flüh, and play home matches at Chöpfli Athletic Field in Hofstetten-Flüh, about 15 minutes from Basel city centre. Players come from Basel-Stadt, Basel-Landschaft, Aargau, Zurich and as far as St. Gallen.
Is there women’s and girls’ cricket in Basel?
Yes. A1 Women play in the Cricket Switzerland Women’s League and its indoor league, and A1 Girls is a team for girls who are starting out or already playing. Both welcome complete beginners; several of our players picked up a bat for the first time at A1.
Where and when do you train?
We train all year round: indoors from October to March and outdoors from April to September. Each team has its own training days, and you’ll find the times and venues on the A1 Men and A1 Women pages.
What does membership cost?
Fees are set each season. Email us at info@a1sportsclub.com and we’ll send you the current fees, with no obligation to join.
Which teams does A1 have?
Three: A1 Men, A1 Women and A1 Girls. The men play in the Cricket Switzerland Regional League and the Cricketer Pro T20 competition. The women play in the Cricket Switzerland Women's League and its indoor league.
Where can I see fixtures and scores?
All fixtures, scorecards and individual batting and bowling records are kept on CricHeroes. Each team page links to its fixtures and leaderboards.
What should I bring to indoor training?
Sports clothes, a water bottle and clean indoor shoes with non-marking soles. Let us know in advance if you need to borrow equipment.
Is A1 Sports Club a commercial club?
No. A1 Sports Club is a non-profit community club run by its members. It was founded in the Basel area in 2022.
